What We Do --> Career Guidance

Career Guidance

When we're 16 to 19 years of age, our goals are pretty much short term, some would say that as teenagers our goals are simply, to get insured on Mum or Dad's car, to get into a 'relationship' or to get served without needing to produce ID.

At 16 our future careers are the furthest thing from our minds, yet the education system and/or society insists that they should select subjects for their Leaving Certificate based on what career or profession they want to end up in after finishing 2nd or 3rd level education. Not fair on them in our opinion! This is one of the reasons so many students feel pressure and are under stress at such a young and impressionable age.

They're calling it Career Guidance for the 21st Century!

While we don’t call it career guidance, the Talent Discovery & Development Programme® provides individuals with guidance in their selection of subjects, selection of their careers, how to study effectively, how to manage Transition Year effectively and how to manage the transition from 2nd to 3rd level life.

Career Guidance & Coaching is not about suggesting that someone should be an accountant simply because they're good at maths or that the should be a zoologist because they like snakes or lizards and watch David Attenborough programmes.

Our programmes are about identifying what an individual’s skills, interests are, what personality and behavioural traits are and if they have the capability to be what they have been told or think they should be. It will identify where the individual is now in their life, where they should be and then helping them to bridge the gap between the two.

Career guidance counsellors & services

We also provide support to career guidance counsellors & services by delivering individuals who, after working with us know what the correct career for them is.
It is a thought-provoking and challenging process, where during and following the process individuals will know what career is suitable to them and more importantly, how they are going to achieve their career goals.

Unhappy in your career

We know that 70% of the working population is unhappy in their career and that up to 40% of 3rd level education drop out of college to find alternative career options. To this extent we have developed the Talent Discovery & Development Programme®, based on an innovative concept in Career Choice and Development.

Complimenting career guidance

This modular programme involves complimenting career guidance in providing students with the tools to guide them along a path, where they will have a structured and clear direction for when they have finished their second level education.

Career Psychometric & Aptitude tests

In a article by John Walshe, Education Editor (published in the Irish Independent, 11th August 2004), he discusses the recommendation in the report from the Working Group of Undergraduate Medical Education, that aptitude tests should be used in the selection of suitable candidates.

The Talent Discovery & Development Programme® is specifically designed to address the increasing needs of individuals to choose the career path that is best suited to their own skills and mind sets. Q1etc will assist and guide you to where your true vocation in life should be. Based on a series of interviews and exercises we will discover your capabilities, your personality and your behavioural traits. At the end of the process you will have identified your most suitable career and have clear direction on how you are going to get there.

Human Resource advantages

The Report, 'Ahead of the Curve, Ireland's Place in the Global Economy', recently published by the Enterprise Strategy Group commissioned by An Tanáiste has clearly recommended that there is a competitive advantage in ensuring that the correct candidates are enabled in choosing the field of education that is matched to them. This Government backed initiative is supported by Forfás.

Students, Parents & Teachers

Clarifying students’ personality traits, behavioural traits, skills and interests is critical to enabling them to make the right choices which will affect the rest of their lives.

The Talent Discovery & Development Programme® ensures that each student has the opportunity to select the right career for themselves at a very early stage of their lives. This is an invaluable service for students and parents alike.

Q1etc helps students of all ages, from secondary and third level to mature students or adults in their search for career and job satisfaction.
